Necrophage ate itself to death

- Your pet Necrophage attacked Garden and hit for 8 points of slashing damage. You gain 8 experience points! Her armor soaked 5 points of damage. Large spines on their body reflexively shot back at you! Your pet takes 8 points of piercing damage! This was enough to kill it! This was enough to kill them! You gain an additional 30 experience points! (2022-03-14 07:12:12).
- Necrophage, belonging to Liemannen, attacked Garden, killing them! (2022-03-14 07:12:12).
- You feel infernal favor enter your soul and revel in the additional magic power granted to you. (2022-03-14 07:12:12).
- Necrophage, belonging to Liemannen, feasted on the body of Garden, gorging itself and growing noticeably more bloated in size. (2022-03-14 07:12:12).
- Necrophage, belonging to Liemannen, was killed by a defensive aura projected by Garden! (2022-03-14 07:12:12).
- Necrophage has despawned. (2022-03-14 07:12:12).
Not sure if that is a bug or just sad. Poor thing ate itself to death.

4 HP before the last attack, 8 damage given & taken, 8 HP gained, died, bloated in size after death. RIP poor Necrophage.

see this is why having aura processing that determines if pet died above two separate lifesteal portions in petcode is bad

but yeah it varies in code whether or not hp gain will come before or after death, in lifesteal's case it tends to be after

think regen tends to be before i.e. research with 6 hp and regenerating + defiler poison not immediately fatal

if only because the status tick comes before the ap loss

usually anyway, most skills will status tick after
