You've got to choose 1 less point of infusion than the number of Magic Points you actually have. Otherwise,

You do not have enough Magic Points to perform that amount of infusion!

It's annoying, since MP capacity is already the bottleneck for infusion as a Nexus Champion. It even stops me from infusing entirely if I have only 1 MP, so there's no workaround for it.
